Movie House: This Is 40

I recently went to see the movie, This Is 40, and immediately fell in love with the house.  It reminded me of all the gorgeous homes you would normally see in Nancy Meyers films with it's classic lines, gorgeous and comfortable interiors and set in a picturesque neighborhood.  This 6,500 square foot house is located in Brentwood, CA and just happens to be right down the street from where the director, Judd Apatow, lives.  Guess who actually owns this home... Giuliana Rancic's sister Monica!  I knew I recognized that stunning kitchen from somewhere.  Yes, I have watched an episode or two of Giuliana & Bill and remember her visiting her sister in this house.  The home was also featured in the movie, Knocked Up.  Anyway, set decorator Leslie Pope redecorated the home to suit the movie family by adding more color as the home is normally decorated in whites and neutrals.  If you do go see the movie, here's another fun fact... the two girls in the movie are real life daughters of Leslie Mann, who plays the mom, and the director, Judd Apatow.  I guess you can say it's a real family affair! While the movie most likely won't win any awards, we had a few good laughs and I'd see it again just for the interiors!

This is the only image I could find of how the home is normally decorated...

You are sooo funny ! There is no shame in watching Giuliana & Bill. I love that show. The only thing that doesn't thrill me is how she calls him Rancic when she is irritated ;0 I have to o see the movie & then buy the DVd so I can " study" the interior. Hope all is great with you!

Haven't seen the movie yet. Did you love it? I love that you recognized the kitchen in the movie :) I'm always studying the background when I watch something, too.

Love the pops of color they put into the home, especially the orange curtains. Thanks for sharing Marianne!

I wanted to see the movie for some laughs, but now I want to see it for the design too! How does one score a house so beautiful that directors want to use it in movies? It's picture perfect!

Love this house and was ready to post it on the blog but I wanted to wait to see the movie. Hopefully I'm going tomorrow night! Love that huge kitchen! XO

In the 4th picture - there's a drawing or painting that resembles "Little Edie" hanging on the wall. Do you happen to know anything about the painting or drawing?

Is there anywhere I might find a blueprint layout for this home? I love it.
